Robots are Love

Robotics is one of the most enjoying and challenging subject of us, Fourth Year Students and also the Special Science Curriculum of Third Year Highschool. Besides the enjoyment and challenges, I learned many things about robot. I learned its definition that a robot is a machine that can do things automatically and repeatedly. The word robot came from the Czech word “robota” which means force labor or slavery.It has two characteristics: Mental Agency and Physical Agency.

I learned the three Laws of Robots and here it goes, A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm, A robot must obey any orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law, A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

The history of robots was also thought to us and some of them are the mechanical bird by Archytas of Tarentum, Vaucanson’s duck,Jacquard’s automated loom, Tesla’s remote controlled boat, Karel Capek introduced the word "Robot" in his play "R.U.R" (Rossuum's Universal Robots), Fritz Lang's movie "Metropolis" is released. "Maria" the female robot in the film is the first robot to be projected on the silver screen, Issac Asimov produces a series of short stories about robots, LEGO and the MIT Media Lab colaborate to bring the first LEGO based educational products to market. LEGO tc Logo is used by in the classrooms of thousands of elementary school teachers, Honda begins a robot research program thats starts with the premise that the robot "should coexist and cooperate with human beings, by doing what a person cannot do and by cultivating a new dimension in mobility to ultimately benefit society,” Honda debuts the P3, the fruit of its decade long effort to build a humanoid robot, The Pathfinder Mission lands on Mars. Its robotic rover Sojourner, rolls down a ramp and onto Martian soil in early July. It continues to broadcast data from the Martian surface until September, Honda debuts new humanoid robot ASIMO, Honda's ASIMO robot rings the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange, NASA launches the MER-A "Spirit" rover destined for Mars, NASA launches the MER-B "Opportunity,” and SONY releases the AIBO ERS-7 it's 3rd generation robotic pet.

I also learned different types of LEGO for robotics like the gears, wheels and frames. I enjoyed our laboratory sessions also wherein I learned how to construct and program a robot. I enjoyed programming and it is the common task assigned to me. I like it when our robot moves. Robotics helped me to be a better person by not only teaching me lectures about robots but also the good values it thought me especially when having hands-on exercises. I learned to be more careful, alert, responsibility, and sensitive and most important is to have cooperation.  Careful because we really need to take care of the parts of the robot because when we lose or break it, we would be paying for it. Alertness is a must because we must be alert in manipulating the robot especially in programming because one mistake could bring the robot in doing the wrong instruction. Responsibility because all of us should be responsible in doing the robot. One example of this is when we were assigned to bring batteries for the robot and some groups did not bring, we learned our lesson. Sensitivity is essential for the group to be successful because all of us must be sensitive to each other and most of all be cooperative. A group without cooperation would not succeed. That made me love robotics. Thus, Robots are Love.
